THE ALARM
Uncut - VH-1 bands Unlimited

A few years ago Vh1 came up with the idea for a new show based on Friends Reunited. A presenter called Ameer Haleen and a Vh1 camera crew were dispatched to various places around the globe with the intention of getting the members of some of Vh1's favourite bands to get together for Bands Reunited.

With varying levels of success old band members were reunited to perform one last time for their fans at an exclusive concert. The result was a fifty minute show featuring interviews and a few live tracks and what the band members thought of the idea.
'The Alarm Uncut' a new DVD box set release from their own website www.thealarm.com showcases their appearance on the show and more, as in addition to the fifty-minute show you also get the bonus of all the footage recorded for the show spread over three DVDs with the added bonus of an audio disc of the full concert performed by The Alarm for the show.

Disc 1 involves the set up catching all four band members in their new lives and showing the full interviews talking about their times with The Alarm, the highs and lows of being in the band and what really happened the night The Alarm split up at Brixton Academy. It,s also great to hear how Mike Peters is bringing about a new future for The Alarm with a new single Superchannel, and a new album Under Attack scheduled for release.

Disc 2 deals with the initial frosty reunion, the collective band interviews, rehearsals and the pre-gig interviews. The fantastic part of this disc is the rehearsals, giving a chance for us wannabe rock stars to see that it's not just a case of going on stage and performing especially for a band who haven't played together for 12 years.

Disc 3 covers the full show more interviews with the band and fans attending the show and the original fifty-minute show. It's when you watch the full live show you get a feel of how good The Alarm were and still are to this day as a band.

From the opening words of Declaration the band and fans sang as one. From the emotion in Mike Peters voice through to the unmistakable smile of Twist (now Nigel Buckle, Public Defence Officer) you begin to realise how much the band as well as the fans are enjoying it. Marching On is quickly followed by Where Where You Hiding When The Storm Broke including the now compulsory card throwing.

Then its time for the biggies. Strength, Sold Me Down The River and Rain In The Summertime transport you back to the times when the music you liked actually made the top 40!

Sixty Eight Guns and Rescue Me follow two songs that blow the roof nearly off and songs that definitely still last the test of time at this or any other Alarm concert. The only way the band could've finished the show was with Blaze Of Glory. The perfect way to close this section of The Alarm story in readiness for the new chapter about to take off in 2006.

If you can give or take The Alarm this is an interesting insight into a unique television idea but if you're a fan this is something that you'll never grow tired of watching and singing to.
